||A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people.||

The Grosse Pointe Library Foundation is a nonprofit organization that advocates, fundraises, and provides critical support for the Grosse Pointe Public Library. We provide the community with opportunities to invest in the success of the Library by contributing to the Annual Fund, Gift Book Program and Library Endowment, and by participating in special events throughout the year. We raise money and we raise our voices to ensure a first-class public library for Grosse Pointe.
From our dedicated staff to our committed Board of Directors, from our enthusiastic patrons to our generous donors, to the thousands of people who benefit from the programs we provide and support, we are what our name implies: a collection of committed, caring individuals who share a common vision of providing the foundation for a superior free public library accessible by all.
OUR MISSION is to strengthen, support and advocate for a superior free public library system in Grosse Pointe. We are dedicated to raising and responsibly administering private donor funding to enhance services and ensure the long-term financial stability of the Grosse Pointe Public Library.
OUR ROOTS of advocacy and support began in 2004 when the Grosse Pointe Public Library was looking to expand in order to adequately support the community. We are overseen by the Library Board of Trustees, and work closely with Library administration and the Friends of the Grosse Pointe Public Library.
WE BELIEVE that strong libraries build strong communities. The Library helps children, teens and adults learn to love words and stories; find books they will treasure; complete homework assignments; pursue a degree program; master new skills; and fuel their imaginations.
WE LEAD community campaigns; through the generosity of our donors we were instrumental in raising the funds needed to open the Ewald Branch in 2005 and the Woods Branch in 2006, and we helped successfully campaign for the 2012 millage. In 2013, we established the Breuer Preservation Fund and raised over $50,000 to restore the modern art collection at the Central Library. We fundraise year-round through the Annual Fund and Library Endowment.
WE FUND diverse programs, resources and services beyond those supported by the public funding, thereby enrichening and enhancing our library system. Donors who contribute to the 2016 Annual Fund will provide support for the following:
- Summer Reading Program serving 1600+ kids annually
- Ancestry.com accessed by patrons over 21,000 times last year
- STEP program providing daily afterschool enrichment programming for teens
- Printed newsletter delivered to every household three times annually
- Books on the Lake bringing nationally acclaimed authors to Grosse Pointe
WE NURTURE AND ENGAGE a community of library supporters through special events and community partnerships.
WE SUPPORT the community by expanding the programs, resources and service the Library can provide our patrons, and by offering unique opportunities to support the Library through special events and community partnerships.
